The owners built a passive solar home with approximately 186 m2 (2000 sq. ft.) and installed domestic hot water solar panels in 2007.

They used Don Roscoe’s design for passive solar homes.

The house is rated above R-2000 with an EnerGuide rating of 84, and was built by Sackville-based EnerGreen Builders Cooperative.

They only use solar heat and an under-sized (rated for 149 m2 (1600 sq. ft.)) woodstove to heat the house, which is generally kept at 21 °C (69.8 °F) during the day and 17 °C (62.6 °F) during the night.

In the winter of 2007/2008, they burnt 2 ½ chords of wood. The house has never been below 16 °C (60.8 °F) and never above 25 °C (77.0 °F) at any time of the year.

The solar hot water panels were installed on a nearby outbuilding and they seem to work very effectively.
