L\u2019\u00e9nergie solaire est absorb\u00e9e par 12 capteurs plans thermiques, fix\u00e9s sur la partie du toit orient\u00e9e vers le sud-ouest. Lors de notre entrevue avec le propri\u00e9taire, alors que la temp\u00e9rature ext\u00e9rieure \u00e9tait de \u2013 4,5 \u00b0C (23 \u00b0F), celle du fluide dans les capteurs \u00e9tait, elle, de 73 \u00b0C (163 \u00b0F). Ce fluide caloporteur est du glycol de qualit\u00e9 alimentaire, utilis\u00e9 parce qu\u2019il ne g\u00e8le pas et ne risque donc pas de casser les tubes. Le glycol a aussi l\u2019avantage de ne pas \u00eatre toxique \u00e0 petites doses et il ne se m\u00e9lange pas physiquement \u00e0 l\u2019eau potable. La chaleur du glycol est transf\u00e9r\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019eau potable dans un \u00e9changeur de chaleur. Le syst\u00e8me install\u00e9 est garanti pour 20 ans. No regular maintenance required, though the owner monitors the collector fluid temperature on very hot summer days. This environmentally friendly 4 Green Key Eco Rated hotel is reducing its carbon footprint by providing solar heated hot water.\u00a0 Solar energy is absorbed by twelve flat plate solar hot water collectors bolted to the roof. The collectors are located on the south-western facing side. During the interview the temperature outside was &minus;5.0&nbsp;&deg;C (23&nbsp;&deg;F). The fluid inside the collectors was 72.8&nbsp;&deg;C (163&nbsp;&deg;F). The fluid used is a food-grade glycol because it will not freeze and crack tubes. Glycol is non-toxic in low doses. In addition, glycol doesn\u2019t physical mix with potable water. Heat from the glycol is transferred to potable water through a heat exchanger. The system has a 20-year warranty.
